SmSh x SCAA: Adopt These Adorable Cuties!

Jones, Wang Wang, Gatsby, Alani, and Hershey need loving homes. Maybe you've got space in yours?
2021-04-28 12:00:00

SmartShanghai loves animals. We have a whole section on our site for people to adopt animals (no sales, ever). Second Chance Animal Aid loves animals. They have been rescuing, fostering and helping animals in Shanghai get adopted since 2005. Their former fosters now live on every continent except Antarctica. They rely solely on donations.

We're back for April, doing our best to help a few animals out, with the help of Allen Lee, the photographer behind PawPaw Studio. A big thanks to Lee and his team for donating their time to help out a few animals in need.

To be ready for adoption, all foster animals receive vet care basics, including parasite control, vaccinations, and spay-neuter, as well as treatment for any injuries or illness at SCAA's vet partner Shanghai PAW.

For adoption procedures, please visit this SCAA page and get in touch with them about foster animals looking for a forever family.

Jones

Jones is a happy, friendly dog who likes to stick close to his people. Rescued over two years ago after a bad traffic accident, he had a front paw amputated. But having just three legs doesn’t slow Jones down!

His rescuer had to leave Shanghai in 2019, and Jones lived in boarding for most of that time until SCAA made a place for him in foster care a couple months ago. Jones settled into the comfort and steady companionship of home without missing a beat. He’s fully toilet trained and walks well on leash.

Jones recently had updated vaccinations (his old records are lost), he’s neutered, and has parasite control. He’s looking for a quiet home where he can hang out with his family. Jones isn’t much into doggie social activities. He gets nervous in busy, noisy settings. Meet Jones at SCAA’s next Adoption Day for the foster animals under their care, or visit www.scaashanghai.org [behind the firewall]

Wang Wang

Rescued by SCAA before Chinese New Year 2019 at the request of concerned shop owners who could no longer keep him in their store, Wang Wang has proven to be an affectionate yet strong-willed foster. He’s very selective about other dogs, hates cats and feels threatened by mops and brooms – the usual effects of a previous tough life as an unwanted street pup.

Wang Wang enjoys a soft dog bed, sunshine and the rewards of treats for his training skills. Once Wang Wang settles in, his bond with people is strong. You’ll rarely meet a dog happier to see you when you come home.

SCAA is seeking an owner experienced with dogs for Wang Wang. He’s not suited to young children, but he’s been (and currently is) happily fostered with families with teens. Wang Wang is a healthy dog. He’s up to date on parasite control, neutered and has had vaccinations and yearly boosters in foster care. Meet Wang Wang at Adoption Days for SCAA foster animals, or contact SCAA at foster@scaashanghai.org.

Gatsby

Puppy Gatsby is a lucky Spring stray rescue. Found sleeping in a planter by a busy road, where he’d been for many days, Gatsby was dirty, hungry and a bit wary of strangers. Fast forward to a few weeks in SCAA foster care, and Gatsby is a happy ball of energy. He feels as good as he looks after a much-needed bath and haircut, parasite control, regular meals, walks and has taken the first set of vaccinations.

At around six months old, Gatsby is a needy puppy who requires consistent guidance to grow into a well-mannered dog. Toilet training is going ok, walking on a leash without pulling and zooming in circles is getting better, but jumping up at people in unbridled excitement needs work.

Not ready to make a permanent adoption commitment?  Gatsby needs a volunteer foster home to help SCAA raise him until they find a well-matched forever home. Visit www.scaashanghai.org [behind the firewall] to learn more about fostering vs adoption and reach out about Gatsby: director@scaashanghai.org.

Alani

SCAA interrupts this hectic Kitten Season with a lovely adult cat who was once a wee baby abandoned in a box. Rescued with her brothers in 2019, Alani (the Hawaiian word for ‘orange’) is the only sibling still waiting for a forever home. One of her brothers has even relocated with his family to the UK.

Alani is a sweet and quiet cat who enjoys napping on the bed, lounging on the sofa and stretching out for chin rubs. She’s pretty low maintenance and an ideal cat companion for an animal lover who also likes spending time at home.

Hershey

A perfect namesake for this sweetest of kitties! Hershey is a young guy who defies the usual cat stereotypes about being picked up and held close; he loves hugs. A happy tabby who head butts you for your attention and snuggles into your neck needs an attentive home. Is that you? Ready to offer a companion animal a lifetime of companionship? Check out SCAA’s adoption procedures or request an application form: director@scaashanghai.org

Hershey has started vaccinations and has parasite control. He also needs a foster home if he’s not found the right forever family. If a temporary commitment to helping SCAA get Hershey ready for adopters is a better fit for you, let them know!
