Finance Officer

Job Description

Finance & HR

  • Prepare payroll, handle salary payments, social security payments, expense reimbursement & payments to suppliers.

  • Cash management, banking.

  • Prepare finance reports.

  • New staff and interns’ finance orientation.

  • Assist the Operations Director with annual audits and annual returns. 

  • Coordinate sales of merchandise, and track merchandise inventory.

  • Issue receipts, donation certificates, and thank-you letters. 


Legal & Admin

  • Handle office purchasing and printing jobs, e.g. banners, flyers, bags, t-shirts, and other merchandise.

  • Assist in communications with Stepping Stones’ government partners in Shanghai. 

  • Assist with registration and maintenance of Shanghai entities (and ongoing reporting needs).

Requirements

  • Tertiary-level education in a finance-related major, preferably with some relevant work experience;
  • Native Chinese, with good English skills;
  • Committed to Stepping Stones' mission, interested in volunteerism and the non-profit sector.
  • Smart, self-motivated, quick to learn, well-organized, and with a positive attitude.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing.
  • I.T. competent.
  • Able to provide references from university professor/current employer to prove trustworthiness with confidential information.
  • Full-time commitment of at least two years, with the potential to extend the term of employment upon mutual agreement
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. Where overtime is worked, staff are encouraged to take time off in lieu.

Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones (上海闵行区华漕铺路石青少年发展中心) is a non-profit organization registered in Shanghai. With a mission to improve the education and general welfare of disadvantaged children in China, Stepping Stones has hosted numerous programs focused on children’s education and well-being since 2006. Stepping Stones recruits, trains, and supports about 1,000 volunteers per year to help children and youth discover the joy of learning a foreign language, digital literacy, and other subjects critical to their holistic development. Our program delivers more than 8,000 lessons to around 6,000 students each year in 10 provinces. Students who participate in our program show increased interest and confidence in their studies, which improves their access to educational and work opportunities in the future. Additionally, students are exposed to different cultures and get early exposure to volunteer programs and volunteering spirit. We provide a friendly work environment with a motivated, multicultural team of 12 people, and an opportunity to learn about the non-profit/volunteering/educational sector.
